Supporting transitions as
emotionally significant moments
At Excel Safe Transitions, we provide safe, structured and therapeutically informed support during transitions for children and young people. We recognise that transitions are not simply about moving from one place to another, but about navigating uncertainty, change and loss of control.

Our approach focuses on how transitions are experienced, ensuring that emotional safety, predictability and dignity are prioritised alongside physical safety. Support is always proportionate to risk and need, and delivered by trained practitioners working within clear governance and safeguarding frameworks.
Types of transitions we support
This includes:
-
Planned transitions, where preparation and predictability can be built in
-
Urgent or short-notice transitions, where information may be limited and distress heightened
-
Bed watches and static supervision, supporting safety during periods of increased vulnerability
-
Local and long-distance journeys, recognising the cumulative impact of time, fatigue and uncertainty
-
Where required, we are able to support international transitions, recognising the additional emotional and practical considerations associated with cross-border movement.
Each transition is approached as an individual experience, with practice adapted to the child’s presentation, needs and context.

Types of escorts we undertake
Transitions supported by Excel Safe Transitions may include movement between a range of settings, such as:
-
Home to a children’s home or placement
-
Transitions to and from education or school settings
-
Attendance at medical, health or therapeutic appointments
-
Court appearances or legal proceedings
-
Transfers between secure services, including secure children’s homes and Young Offender Institutions (YOIs)
Across all settings, practitioners work to maintain continuity, containment and calm, reducing the likelihood of escalation and supporting children to arrive feeling as safe and regulated as possible.
