Frequently Asked Questions

What is Excel Safe Transitions?

Excel Safe Transitions is a specialist service that provides safe, structured and therapeutically informed support for children and young people during transitions. The service is delivered by Excel Escort Solutions Ltd and operates within a clear safeguarding and governance framework.

What types of transitions do you support?

We support both secure and non-secure transitions, including:

  • Planned or urgent transitions

  • Local and long-distance journeys

  • Bed watches and static supervision

  • Transitions between homes, schools, health settings and courts

  • Transfers between secure settings, including secure children’s homes and YOIs

All transitions are risk-assessed and delivered proportionately.

Who do you work with?

We work primarily with Local Authorities, health services and partner agencies. We support children and young people with a wide range of needs, including trauma histories, disrupted attachments, neurodivergence and anxiety. We also support Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).

What makes your approach different?

Our focus is on how transitions are experienced, not just how they are managed. We integrate trauma-informed, relational, and neuroaffirmative practices into every transition, supported by trained practitioners, clear planning, and robust governance.

What does “therapeutic transitions” mean in practice?

Therapeutic transitions refer to the way support is delivered, not to clinical treatment. In practice this means prioritising emotional safety, using calm and predictable approaches, supporting regulation, and understanding behaviour as communication.

Are your staff trained and DBS checked?

Yes. All Safe Transitions Practitioners are subject to enhanced DBS checks and reference checks. They receive training in trauma-informed practice, BILD-accredited behaviour support, safeguarding, first aid and health & safety, and are supported through reflective supervision.

Do you use physical intervention?

Physical intervention is never routine and is used only as a last resort where necessary to manage immediate risk. Any use is in line with national guidance, BILD standards and organisational policy, and is reviewed through governance processes.

How do you ensure safeguarding?

Safeguarding is central to our service. We operate under a comprehensive policy framework covering safeguarding, professional conduct, behaviour support, planning, data protection and governance. Concerns are escalated and recorded in line with statutory guidance.

Can we see your policies?

You can contact us directly to discuss individual cases, urgent transitions or commissioning arrangements.
